Edo state government said they didn't released any photograph of fleeing COVID- 19 patient, calls it 'misinformation' -

The Edo state government has denied releasing photograph of the nursing woman who fled after testing positive to corona virus .

we never released any photograph of fleeing COVID- 19 patient, it’s a misinformation - Edo state government

Mr Osagie Crusoe, who is the Special Adviser to Governor Godwin Obaseki on Media and Communication strategy , said that the photograph is fake , and the woman in the photograph is a victim  of fake news.

He further said the absconded nursing mother’s name was mentioned when releasing the statement and also her house address was released too to the general public , so in that case it will be difficult to mix up the actual person the state is searching for .

He also said this “misinformation” is punishable by the law .

Below is the statement that was released by Mr Osagie Crusoe :

"Our attention has been drawn to a video on social media by a lady who claimed her photos have been circulated on social media wrongly as the nursing mother wanted to COVID19 treatment by the state government.
“It must be stated that when government made the announcement, it only gave the name of the woman in question. And her address and never released any photograph .
“We categorically states that the nursing mother lives at No. 2 Atoe Idubor art, off 2nd Ugbor , Benin City . With such details , it would be impossible to mix up the person we are searching for .
“However , we understand that the action of the mischief makers would have caused the lady in the video on social media undue psychological torment . We sympathize with her as , just like us , she is now a victim of fake news .
”Therefore , we use this opportunity to reiterate the warning of purveyors of fake news and misinformation to dm desist from such act, as their actions amount to undermining government’s effort to check the speed of corona virus . This is punishable under the quarantine Act Regulations, which is in force in the state “
